Haiti Trip Fosters Community Bonds

As our trip to Haiti this past June drew near, I found myself growing increasingly excited. I looked forward to visiting Sister Luvia and again witnessing her faith. I was particularly excited about seeing the new orphanage. I was also quite happy we had a team of 16 traveling to Haiti, six from St. Pius X, eight from St. Joseph Parish in Pewamo and two videographers.

Haiti Trip Teaches Openness to God

        I’ve traveled quite a bit to poorer countries, but always drove through the poor areas and straight to the resorts.  No big deal…… 

        The first 24 hours in Haiti were awful, brazenly I say, disgusting.  I thought I had made a horrible, horrible mistake coming.  I was going to have to dig deep to cope with this. 

        On the second day, we went to the school and the orphanage and everything changed. What followed were the best seven days ever.

Where I Found Hope in HAITI

Last month, six parishioners spent seven days in Haiti with Sister Luvia Joseph, whom we support with our Master’s Mission Tithe.  Their reflections will be shared at various times through the summer.
